Blakedown Cricket Club

2008 Season
|
The season started off with a reminder of last year, first fixture cancelled due to rain!! We got off to a winning way the following week at home facing new opposition, Blackwood Cavaliers. Blackwood batted first and were restricted to 160 for the loss of 9, mainly due to excellent bowling of Rob Chatwin 3 for11 off 4 overs and John Goodman 1for 3 off 8 overs, 5 of which were maidens. Some steady batting from Harvey Stokes (49) Glen Barratt(22) and Mark Swindells (22 not out ) including one big six, took us close, the game was won thanks to a bye off the last ball, they don’t come much closer. The following week saw us at home again, this time taking on Stourbridge Social, who batting first made 178 for 7 off their 40 overs. Main bowling highlights were again J.Goodman, 1for 9 off 8 overs, Si Tranter 1for 16 off 8, Chris Syner 2-15, Rob Chatwin2-39 and Glen Barratt1-28. Blakedown’s batting never really got started and limped to 107 all out from 31 overs. Only batting worth noting was John Goodman 36 and Rob Chatwin 30. The 1st of June and match 3 saw Highwood Park as the visitors. Blakedown chose to bat first and amassed 187 for 7 of 40 overs. This was mainly due to opener John Goodman who was still there at the end and hit a fantastic 108, the first time he has been a centurion. He was backed up by a quick fire 34 from Phil Brookes. Highwood Park started badly with none of their top six finding double figures. They ended well short at 119 for 9.Rob Chatwin took 4 wkts, Si Tranter 1 for 6 of 8 overs, John Goodman 2 for 10.Tom Sara 1for 1, Russ Welbourn 1 for 8. Another week, another home game, another centurion and another win. UK Transplants the Visitors. Blakedown elected to bat and made 180 for 5. Harvey Stokes the main man, hitting a well paced 100 not out. Supported by Phil Brookes 32 and 14yr old Oliver Stevens 20. UK T. finished on 162 for 8, with the wickets going to Glen Barratt 3 for 39, Rob Chatwin 2 for 26 and Harvey also 2 for 26. I big mentioned should go to all our junior members, Oliver Stevens, Tom Sara, Ben Hayward, Yianis Goodman and Ollie Swindells who have all performed superbly well, especially in the field with their enthusiasm and of course young legs |
