The Blakedown 8 are 4 couples from Blakedown who after realising we didn't
get out as much as we used to because of young children, and having long
experience of organising similar events through work organisations, Round
Table, etc thought we would organise one for ourselves.

This is now our 4th Charity Ball, having raised over £10,000 in the past 3 years for Birmingham Children's Hospital, Air Ambulance and MacMillanNurses. This year our charity is British Heart Foundation with the money to betargeted at local support.
Our charities have all been chosen due to personal involvement or need, with this year's BHF following my father's recent heart attack and various bypass operations, and MacMillan Nurses in 2006 following the loss of two committee members' mother and a grandmother to cancer
Last year we sold out with 193 guests filling the Manor Suite at Stone Manor Hotel, all being from Blakedown, Hagley, Stourbridge, Bromsgrove, Halesowen and Kidderminster areas.
We sell tables of ten but can accommodate more or less.
We also approach a number of local businesses asking for sponsorship of raffle prizes which in the past have ranged from drinks, flowers and vouchers, meals from local pubs and restaurants up to larger items such as a glider or balloon flights, clay pigeon shooting lessons, and electrical or sporting items including jet washers, tool sets, DVD players, Ipods, golf clubs, etc.
This year we are hoping to offer a night at The Moulin Rouge as the star prize.
We also have a charity auction with signed football and rugby memorabilia, and art. This has ranged from signed England Rugby shirts - Martin Johnson/Martin Corry, and a Radio 5 World Cup transcript from Bill Robertson to balls, boots and shirts from WBA and Birmingham City, and this year we already have confirmed some BBC memorabilia, together with signed rugby/footballs
We are also keen for simple cash donations towards costs ofprinting, band, etc if companies can do so tax efficiently as charitable donations
In return all sponsors logos are printed on the menus and other promotion boards in the room together with details of what they have sponsored, links on our website, etc. We are open to other suggestions such as a board or banner in the function room too.
