Its hard to believe were on to the 6th Blakedown Bolt. Since our first event in 2007 weve gone from strength to strength, and have sold out each time well in advance of race day. We get a huge number of repeat entries (its nice to be popular!) and always have to turn away many entrants because we fill up so quickly. Thats the warning out of the way. Lets tell you more about the event

Entering There are two ways to enter: either download an application form from this site, print out, fill in and send it off to our Race Director with your cheque, OR enter on-line at www.runnersworld.co.uk, where you can pay by credit card (you have to pay a small extra premium to Runners World for this service.)

The Course is nice and varied, with a few hills and stiles along the way. Apart from some very short sections on quiet country roads, its almost entirely traffic free. Youll be running through beautiful Worcestershire countryside, taking in farmland and woodland, making a loop around Mount Segg. We can promise you some superb views, heaps of variety and the much-loved/loathed water crossing!

Because of the rural, cross-country nature of the route, we do a HUGE amount of work on the course in the days leading up to the event. Bear this in mind if you do a trial run beforehand – and rest assured that on race day it will be beautifully pruned and trimmed!

Race results for all runners will be posted here on the village website as soon as we can crunch the numbers!

We run the event to raise money for charity, and give profits to local sporting related causes. Organisations supported by the 2011 events include Blakedown Playground, Blakedown Cricket Club and the Hansel & Gretel support group for children with special needs.

All finishers get a unique Blakedown Bolt memento, which is a genuine bolt. We chose this to be a little different to other events and to reflect the traditional forging and tool-making industry that began locally in the 1700s.

Theres a Licensed Bar, refreshments and BBQ from 6.30pm and after the race.

Race Route
The route begins with a lap of the sports field, then heads SW between Forge Pool and Ladies Pool. It includes short sections on quiet country lanes, but is predominantly along scenic woodland and field paths and circumnavigates Mount Segg. There are a few stiles to add some spice! Finishes back at Blakedown Sports Field. No dogs or cycles! Please obey Marshals and take extra care at road crossings (but bear in mind we are still making small changes to improve the flow of the course).
