Blakedown vs Clent
Game was played on Sunday 4th July at Blakedown.
Clent won the toss and elected to bat, scoring
a respectable 136 runs for the loss of 7
wickets from their 40 overs. We then
enjoyed a very nice tea before it was Blakedown
turn to bat. The tea was apparently
too good though and we quickly lost our first
5 wickets for 35 runs, still 102 short of
victory.
At the crease was the last of our 'recognised'
batsmen, Rob Chatwin, who's remaining batting
partners were Simon Tranter and Albi Brookes
(both bowlers and by their own admission,
not the greatest batsmen on earth).
Following that were 3 club juniors, Scott
Rollings (14), Ross Syner (12) and Marcus
Allen (13). With Clent's bowlers in
full cry, not a promising line-up but................up
stepped 'Chatty' to the crease and with a
mixture of quality batting and one slice
of good luck, he scored an unbeaten 79 runs,
shepherding the remaining batsmen through
to a victory with just the loss of two more
wickets - Simon & Albi.
A marvelous innings, aided and abetted by
the tree 'tail enders', with special mention
to Scott, who not only resolutely defended
when called upon, but hit two fours in the
process! Final score was Clent 136 for 7 off 40 overs.
Blakedown 137 for 7.
Another win for Blakedown!
