Dear Readers,
Re: The Millennium Green
I would like to bring to your attention how
important it is to have dogs on their leads
at all times.
On Saturday 10th October two dogs came hurtling from the
Millennium Green and chased and
attacked a cat which was in its own driveway.
I witnessed the appalling attack and thank
god the victim was not a child.
Secondly I have an 11 month old granddaughter
and would not let her play on the green
as it is nothing more than a dogs' toilet.
To my dismay we came across the green from
Ladies Pool and the pushchair wheels were
covered in dog excrement and had to be cleaned
and disinfected.
Although responsible dog owners may clean
up their dog's mess, there are obviously
many who do not.
Name and address supplied
Village people
You may be aware that there has been an idea
that village organisations come together
perhaps twice a year;
to share ideas and dates for future events,
so that there is less chance of date clashes
and a wider range of the
community can support every event. Twelve
organisations were represented at the first
meeting of this
sort earlier in the year.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 27th January 2010 at 7.30pm in the school hall.
As well as sharing ideas we will be beginning
to plan the fete.
You would be most welcome at this meeting
where we hope cross group communication
can be improved and views and ideas for the
fete can be shared.
This meeting won’t commit you to yet more
meetings; it will be a chance to share views!
Senior Citizens and Grand Parents
The children and staff at Blakedown Primary
School would like to invite you to our annual
Christmas Music Morning. You are very welcome
to join us on Thursday 17th December
at 10am and share our music. If you could
let us know if you are joining us that would
help
with our arrangements, the telephone number
is 700243. We look forward to seeing you!
Indecent behaviour at beauty spot
Police are stepping up patrols after receiving
complaints about inappropriate and indecent
behaviour at a beauty spot
at Wolverley, near Kidderminster. The complaints have been made by people,
including families with children, visiting
the
nature reserve off Kingsford Lane.
Police have previously clamped down on indecent
behaviour in and around the public toilets
but now officers have
received reports of inappropriate behaviour
in nearby woodland.
To tackle the problem the Local Policing
Team is carrying out daily patrols in the
area and posting signs in and around the
wooded area warning people about their conduct.
Local Policing Officer Pc Sally Sliwinska
said: “The kind of activity we are talking
about here is illegal and unacceptable.
Coming across this kind of behaviour can
be quite distressing and we don’t want anyone,
let alone families with children,
witnessing it. This includes littering the
area with pornographic magazines containing
material of a kind you certainly wouldn’t
want your kids to see.
“We are also encouraging people to report
anything suspicious or inappropriate to us
and to make a note of the vehicle
registrations of those involved. We will
be following these reports up as we take
complaints of this nature very seriously.
Anyone found behaving indecently or engaging
in sexual activity in public will be arrested.
“This is a popular beauty spot and attracts
a lot of visitors. We want to ensure that
the facilities and countryside there can
be used by the community without people feeling
upset or intimidated.”
If people see anyone acting suspiciously
or behaving in a manner that gives them cause
for concern they should call police
on 0300 333 3000 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously
on 0800 555 111.

NHW ALERT - MISSING DOG
On Thursday 08/10/09 at approx. 17:00hrs
a short haired Border Collie went missing
from land just off Deansford Lane, Blakedown.
The circumstances as follow: The dog's owner,
regularly takes both his dogs to this location,
so they can exercise off the leads out of
danger from traffic.
On this particular occasion, a jogger approached,
with a dog of his own beside him (another
Border Collie)
the dog owners Collie then took off after
the jogger's dog (not aggressively) &
despite calls for help the jogger
ignored the owners calls & continued
running with both dogs beside him.
The dog, who answers to the name of Max has
not been seen since.
The Owner& his wife are senior citizens,
obviously very distressed by the disappearance
of this dog,
& would be very appreciative of any help
in this matter. If anyone in the Blakedown
area reports seeing a stray collie,
can you please contact me, and i will inform

Blakedown Bimble - advance notice
A date for your Christmas diary, and an event
not to be missed - the Blakedown Bimble will
take place on Saturday afternoon, 19th December.
It's a leisurely walk around the Blakedown
countryside, and all ages are welcome.
If you bring a pushchair or buggy,
you'll have to do a little bit of lifting
over stiles though! Dogs are welcome
- please keep them under close control.
Last year we had more than 100 walkers, dressed
as Santa, reindeer and all manner of festive
folk - the costume is optional, but does
look very jolly!
We'll leave the Sports Pavilion at 2pm for
the walk (around 2 miles) and return to the
Pavilion for mulled wine, hot chocolate,
squash, mince pies and sweeties for the children,
and we'll also sing carols.
Please support this community event, and
help raise funds for the new Sports Pavilion.

THE AVENUE
Shortly after the houses in Lynwood Drive were built bollards were erected in the Avenue to prevent through vehicular traffic.
The bollards placed halfway down the Avenue were removed by three villagers though the bollards at the north end of the Avenue remain.
I recently undertook a survey of 36 “ frontagers”
to the Avenue and had a 52% response.
Every response stated that vehicular access should be restricted.
Other comments made:-
· Safety was the primary reason given. The Avenue is often used as a rat run for cars and speeding motorbikes. Many young children live off the Avenue
· Reduce fly tipping
· Reduce anti social behaviour
· Preservation of wild life.
· Safer for pedestrians
· As the Avenue surface improves without vehicular through traffic it would become a more pleasant place to walk and allow access for buggies and wheelchairs
· A precedent has been set by the remaining bollards at the north end of the Avenue
I presented this information at the Parish Council meeting on the 19th August and was asked to survey the Village via the Web site.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Please let me have your thoughts by 10th September so that I can present them to the next Parish Council meeting on September 23rd
Many thanks
Jane Johns

This year has been difficult for a number of reasons.
The Wyre Forest District who supplied the dates has clashed with local events.
The Scouts who in the past have always helped,
this year the event clashed with one of their
own events and they offered no support,
despite the gallant efforts of the School
who provided a junior team,
who had the misfortune to play their first
game in the awful rain that fell on the Sunday
morning.
While the Bowls team lost their top two player’s, who turned out last year, when the event was won, didn’t do as well.
My thanks go to all of the Teams that turned
out and supported the events and to the Old
House at Home
who supported the Dominoes, the only winning
team we had this year.
We look forward to Next Year.

Blakedown Bolt Update
Check out the stir we caused last year when
the Sun newspaper reported UFO's flying over
Bromsgrove - they really should have checked
their facts more carefully! Sorry to
disappoint but these were not spaceships,
just seven Chinese fire lanterns, which
we released on the sports field to celebrate
last year's Blakedown Bolt. We can
promise you more of the same this year (perhaps
we should give the tabloid press advance
notice!?)
