Some of the current pupils of Blakedown Primary School

looking through the old registers and log books

Next April marks the 120th anniversary of Blakedown School. All sorts of special events are being planned to mark the occasion. One of the things we would like to do is publish a commemorative book, reflecting the many decades of life at the school.

But, we need some help! We are appealing to former pupils and members of staff to write down something about their time at Blakedown. It could be about a special occasion, or event. It could be a description of a typical day. How were the subjects taught, and what games did you play outside? Perhaps you have particularly fond memories of individual friends or teachers (maybe some not so fond ones!)

We’re not looking for any particular length of writing – short or long, it’s all going to add to the richness of the book.

If you have a photograph of yourself, as you were in your time at Blakedown, we would very much like to borrow it, to copy and include in the book. We would take extremely good care of photos, and return them to you as soon as possible. It doesn’t matter whether the photo was taken in or out of school, just that it shows you, perhaps with friends or family.

Please send your written contribution to Lesley Brown c/o Blakedown School, Birmingham Road, Blakedown, Kidderminster, DY10 3JN. Email versions can be sent to

Don’t forget to tell us when you attended the school, and what your maiden name was if you’ve since changed it! Please send your contribution as soon as possible – the printing deadline is 31 March 2005.

Thank you for helping, and we look forward to reading your reminiscences!

If you know someone else who may like to contribute, please tell them about our project.
